Ockham HF is born from the convergence of three fundamental pillars. The first is the conviction of its founder regarding the importance of fully pursuing one's own potential. The second is the awareness that such a journey is a unique experience, lived distinctly by each individual. The third, no less essential, is the purpose of reviving, in a scenario where abundant liquidity often stifles the creativity of solutions, the legacy of William of Ockham: the belief that the most suitable model for understanding the world optimally harmonizes simplicity and precision.
⬆ Back to topThe development of natural sciences since the beginning of the Renaissance has always been marked by disruptions associated with Ockham's principle! Visionaries capable of thinking outside the box proposed models for the mechanisms of nature, which worked only partially. These models grew increasingly complex to accommodate unexpected results until an enlightened mind proposed something simple that replaced all the patched-up contraptions—Kepler and his elliptical planetary trajectories, for example! A behavioral dynamic of clinging to what once worked, even if precariously, also explains the difficulty in embracing simpler, more effective solutions, such as Black and Scholes and their assumptions. All these characteristics are condensed into a few decades between the collapse of classical physics at the very small scale and the birth of quantum mechanics, spanning the three problems that classical physics simply couldn’t explain and the debunking of “God does not play dice with the Universe” by one of the most brilliant minds of the 20th century (the dismantling of the EPR proposition).
